Jaclyn Farley knows how to make a rockin’ hamburger…and she is the winner of our recent Tastefully Simple Beautiful Burger contest on Facebook! Both she and her husband enjoy creating new recipes, and they really struck gold with their protein-packed Merlot Burgers.

I don’t know why I’ve never added Merlot Sauce directly to the hamburger mixture, as Jaclyn does, because it is awesome! She also marinates sliced onions in Merlot Sauce and a little Seasoned Salt – then tosses them on the grill. Since I am a grilled mushroom freak…I added those to the onions and wow…super yummy burger topper!

Jaclyn’s recipe and photos are below – so mellow out this weekend with a glass of merlot, a grill and a beautiful Seasoned Merlot Burger!

Ingredients:

Burger Mixture:

Onion Mixture:

Burger Spread:

Additional Garnishes:

  • 6 eggs
  • Seasoned Salt to taste
  • 1 Tomato
  • Lettuce

Recipe Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, two eggs, Garlic Garlic, Merlot Sauce, oatmeal and black pepper. Form hamburger mixture into 6 patties (more or fewer depending on how large you like your burgers).
  • Slice onion. Drizzle with your desired about of Merlot sauce and Seasoned Salt to taste. Let the onions sit for a few minutes to soak in the flavors. Cook the onions on the grill using a grill pan so they don’t fall through the grate.
  • Before the burgers are done on the grill, fry one egg per burger (over hard or over easy). Sprinkle each egg with Seasoned Salt to taste.
  • Mix together mayonnaise and desired amount of Bacon Bacon for burger spread.
  • Assemble burger on your bun adding one patty, burger spread, one fried egg and onions. Add lettuce and tomato if you wish.

Testing Notes (Jaclyn):

  • The egg and burger are a great blend of taste, and the Merlot Sauce makes them extra juicy and delicious.
  • You can use many different seasoning blends with these – try Wahoo! Chili® or Fiesta Party Dip Mix®!
  • Let the Merlot Sauce soak into the onions for a few minutes before grilling them.
  • Fry the eggs right before the burgers are ready so they are still warm.

Testing Notes (Jane):

  • I added 1 Tbsp Bacon Bacon and 1 Tbsp Everyday Grillin’TM Seasoning to my hamburger mixture and it was delish.
  • The oatmeal and the egg in the hamburger mixture make for a really juicy burger that holds together well.  It’s kind of like grilled meatloaf…which my family loves.
  • Wet your hands to make the hamburger patties – they come out smooth and rounder that way, and the mix doesn’t stick to your hands.
  • I didn’t time the frying of the eggs well…so I reheated them in the microwave for a few seconds.  No one was the wiser!
  • We drizzled our burgers with Burger & Brat Mustard and Honey Apple Grill Sauce…quite a taste sensation!
